About This Spot

El Mesón in the quiet heart of Purmamarca invites you into a warm and intimate refuge where the passage of time slows just enough to savor a truly local experience. The moment you step inside, subtle melodies drift softly through the air—notes of Spanish and French songs woven with hints of indigenous rhythms—that effortlessly set a reflective, inviting mood.

This is not a place of rush or clamor. Instead, it feels like a cherished neighborhood gathering spot where the textures of the North Argentine landscape gently infuse every corner—from the earthy wood accents to the soft, scattered candlelight. Conversations here float between moments of quiet enjoyment, the clink of glasses sharing one of the region’s Malbecs, and the simple joys of discovering flavors shaped by place and tradition.

Meals at El Mesón unfold like stories told in layers. There is a thoughtful attention to combining ingredients that echo the surrounding valleys: a creamy pumpkin soup brightened with orange slices or a slow-cooked goat dish served with care and patience, revealing subtle nuances you might not expect. Vegetables are treated with as much respect as the meats, often arriving fresh from local gardens, gently cooked and dressed to let their natural character shine.

The desserts here speak softly, too—pear tartlets infused with rose-inflected white chocolate ganache or a molten dulce de leche flan whose richness settles warmly like a memory. Each plate has a humanity to it, a sense that the hands who prepared it have listened carefully to the land and the guests alike.

El Mesón’s atmosphere leans toward cozy intimacy rather than grand gestures, making it a place to linger, to share stories, or to lose yourself in the slow unfolding of a meal. It’s a destination that feels less like a stop on a tourist trail and more like a hidden chapter of Purmamarca’s local life—one where warmth and subtle discovery live quietly side by side.

Very nice place, all the dishes we had were really tasty and the Elesteco was excellent! The service was really nice and explained a lot. We had 2 starters (goat cheese with nuts and selection of salami), 2 side dishes (rucola and goat cheese ricotta and tomatoes with cheese and olive oil) and 1 dessert (chocolate with strawberries ice cream). Everything, included the bottle of wine at a very good price of about 35USD. Unfortunately we did not feel very well the day after and that day we ate only at El Meson, so maybe the method used to wash the veggies and/or to store the cheese or ice cream should be improved. Also, payment by credit card should be implemented.

Exquisite! We tried the salad and cheese as entrees, the sorrentino raviolis and ed d’essere the honey mousse and dulce de leche flan. The food was excellent , the wine as well and the place cozy and intimate

The three course menu, and even the amuse-bouche, were a delight, flavours delicately combined (the beans' exquisite sauce or the lemony quinoa are good examples). We had the slow-cooked goat and the earth-covered asado, both fantastic! (Asado is not normally tender, but this way of cooking made it so, a variation of a classic.) My only small suggestion: I missed a chocolate-based dessert and the "candy-like" one (with peach) was too "candy". One other great point: good wines were reasonably priced, so you don't feel you are "forced" into spending a fortune. Kudos to the chef!!!

A Culinary Oasis: Where Flavors, Music, and Ambiance Enchant In the heart of Pumamarca, lies an extraordinary establishment that transcends the boundaries of traditional dining. As we entered, we were instantly captivated by the enchanting ambiance that embraced us. The air was filled with the melodic tunes of Spanish and French songs, intermingled with exotic tribal music, creating a mesmerizing symphony that accentuated the beauty of the space. Our culinary journey began with the starters, a tantalizing preview of the culinary wonders to come. The quinoa salad with goat provolone and the eggs with charqui and watercress emulsion ignited our taste buds with their delicate flavors and harmonious textures. We knew we were in for a treat. The main courses arrived, and they were nothing short of extraordinary. The succulent cabrito asado al horno de barro, lovingly cooked in a clay oven, transported us to a realm of gastronomic bliss. Each tender bite was a testament to the skill and passion of the chefs who expertly crafted this culinary masterpiece. Accompanying it was the guateado, marinated beef ribs that were grilled to perfection, infusing every morsel with a symphony of flavors that delighted our palates. Beyond the culinary delights, the space itself was a work of art. The ceiling and bar, adorned with planks made from the cardón cactus, honored the natural beauty of the region. The white Adobe walls exuded a rustic charm, while the exposed wood beams overhead seemed to whisper stories of the mountain village's history. The red terracotta tile floor and simple wooden accents, including the adorable woodstove, added warmth and a sense of authenticity. Potted plants lined the three-paneled wooden-framed windows, bringing a touch of nature indoors. As we savored our meals, we couldn't help but feel a deep connection to the soul of the place. It was clear that every detail, from the perfectly executed dishes to the meticulously designed space, was crafted with love and devotion. This was more than a restaurant; it was a sanctuary where flavors, music, and ambiance intertwined to create an unforgettable experience. Our culinary journey reached its crescendo with the desserts, tantalizing our senses with their exquisite flavors. The torrija, adorned with chamomile flowers, danced on our tongues, while the warm pear tart, infused with white chocolate ganache and the essence of airampo, took us on a sweet and satisfying adventure. In conclusion, our visit to this culinary oasis was a true sensory delight. The divine flavors, the enchanting music, and the meticulously designed space wove together a tale of culinary excellence and heartfelt artistry. We traveled 11 000km to visit Argentina, this meal alone made the trip worthwhile!

The place is great and we loved it, but there are some things can be improved. It’s definitely the best restaurant in the city but there are not enough vegetarian options. I would recommend to add one more vegetarian main dish. We tried Ocas Dulzonas and the taste was plane, not enough of spiciest and pesto sauce was not salty unfortunately. But carrots were cooked very well. Sopa cremosa de calabaza was delicious as well as Quesillo al hierro. Miel de Caña was too sweet, it felt like there was one kilogram of sugar inside. I would recommend to make it less sweet. Tibia de Peras is excellent, very recommended. It o improve the atmosphere I would recommend to change the light from the modern ceiling lamps with white light to more authentic ones like in the corridor that hang very low above the table with warm yellow light. In general white light is always more for hospital than for restaurant :)

Amazing restaurant. It's one of the best restaurant I've tried in all over Argentina (Buenos Aires included). It's high level cuisine, and magnific presentstion. We had an amazing pumpkin soup as entrance (the soup inside had like a creamy bread amazing), followed by the main dishes: Lomo de Llama with caramelized sauce and bacon, and Picaña cooked for 4 hours in white wine. The side dishes were Eggplant and Potatoes and finish with amazing chocolate cake and strawberry ice cream. We spent like 44 USD for the dinner and drinks for two people. It's on the higher price point for the area but very worthy. The wine we had was AMAZING. Highly recommended place. So sad they don't open in lunch time because we wanted to eat the before leaving Purmamarca for lunch! And it's cash only as most of the places around purnamarca.
